Trouville was a fishing village until the 1820s, when a painter called Charles Mozin exhibited a canvas of it in Paris and the fashionable classes decided they wanted to see the sea. Within thirty years it had a casino, a boardwalk and a row of extravagant villas along the cliff. Boudin painted the crowds on the sand, Monet spent part of his honeymoon here in 1870, Flaubert set part of his youth here, and Marguerite Duras wrote for decades in an apartment at Les Roches Noires, the old grand hotel where Proust had stayed before her.
Then in 1860 the Duc de Morny looked across the river Touques at the empty marshland on the far bank, drained it, and built Deauville from scratch as a resort for money. Deauville got the racecourse, the polo, the film festival and the shop windows. Trouville kept the fishermen.
They are five minutes apart on foot over the same bridge, and that is really the point of coming here. Trouville has a working fish market on the quay, a long sandy beach with a proper boardwalk, streets that go uphill and a normal weekly market. It costs less, it feels lived in, and Deauville is right there whenever you want the other thing.
Your chauffeur meets you where you are, at the time you choose. There is no queue, no shared shuttle and no meter running.
Any address in Paris or the suburbs. Your chauffeur is at the door at the agreed time and helps with the luggage.
Your chauffeur tracks the flight and adjusts to delays at no extra cost. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board, or kerbside if you prefer.
The two towns share a station and a small airport, both a few minutes away. We also collect from the cruise berths at Le Havre, forty minutes up the coast.
Trouville is about 205 km northwest of central Paris and takes roughly two hours fifteen by road, west on the A13 and then down through the Pays d'Auge to the coast.
The exact distance depends on your Paris address, so the calculator above works on the real road distance between your two addresses rather than a rounded number. Tolls, fuel and parking are already inside the price.
There is a train from Gare Saint-Lazare to Deauville-Trouville in about two hours, direct at weekends and in summer, with a change at Lisieux the rest of the time. It is a good line and plenty of Parisians use it. The car makes sense when there are three or more of you, when you have beach and weekend luggage, when you want to stop at Honfleur on the way, or when you are arriving off a flight and would rather not deal with two stations first.
Small enough to do on foot, with Deauville over the bridge whenever you want it.
The poissonnerie on the quay, open every day, where the boats land and where you can sit down in front of a plate of oysters and whelks without any ceremony at all.
Over a kilometre of sand with a wooden promenade behind it, the 1930s bathing pool, and the light that Boudin and Monet came here to paint. It is a real beach, not a decorative one.
The Corniche and the streets climbing behind it are lined with belle epoque villas in brick, timber and slate, including Les Roches Noires where Proust and later Marguerite Duras stayed.
Five minutes on foot. The Planches, the parasols, the Normandy hotel, the racecourse and the shops. Look at both and decide for yourself which one you would come back to.
Two hours and a quarter each way, usually with beach bags. It is worth getting the small things right.
Baby seats, toddler seats and boosters, fitted before you get in. Tell us the ages when you book and they will be in the car.
Three large cases in the Executive Eco, seven in the Premium Van. Pushchairs, cool boxes and windbreaks all count, so err towards the van in summer.
No timetable to catch in either direction. Pick your departure time, tell us when you want collecting, and the day is yours to shape.
One fixed price per kilometre of real road distance. No surge, no night surcharge, no airport supplement.
At 205 km the fare is set by the distance rather than the minimum, so the calculator above gives you the real figure straight away. If you want the car to wait and bring you back to Paris the same evening, or to take in Honfleur and Deauville on the way, ask when you request a price and we will quote it separately and in writing before you book.
About two hours fifteen for roughly 205 km on the A13. Friday afternoons and summer Saturdays are the two times the road gets genuinely busy.
They face each other across the river Touques and are five minutes apart on foot. Deauville was built as a luxury resort in 1860 and still is one. Trouville is the older fishing town: cheaper, busier with locals, and with the fish market on the quay.
Easily. Most people walk over the bridge without thinking about it. Ask your chauffeur to drop you on one side and collect you from the other if that suits you better.
For one or two people travelling light, the Saint-Laz train to Deauville-Trouville is a fine option in about two hours. The car wins on luggage, on group size, on stopping at Honfleur, and on arriving straight from an airport.
2.00 EUR per kilometre in the Executive Eco and 3.20 EUR per kilometre in the Premium Van, on the real road distance from your exact address. Put your pickup point into the calculator above and you will have the figure in seconds.
Yes. Your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name board, follows the flight and adjusts to delays without charging for the wait. Kerbside pickup is fine too if you prefer it.
Yes, at no extra cost. Baby seats, toddler seats and boosters, fitted before you arrive. Just tell us the ages of the children when you book.
