Honfleur is a small port at the mouth of the Seine that has been drawing painters for nearly two centuries. Eugene Boudin was born here and taught the young Monet to paint outdoors on this waterfront; Jongkind, Courbet and later the Fauves all worked from the same quays. The subject has barely changed. The Vieux Bassin is still ringed by narrow houses six and seven storeys tall, faced in slate to keep the weather out, standing shoulder to shoulder with their reflections in the water.
Behind the harbour is the Eglise Sainte-Catherine, the largest wooden church in France, built by local shipwrights after the Hundred Years War using the techniques they knew: the roof is essentially two upturned hulls, and the belfry stands separately across the square because nobody trusted the timber to carry it. Between the church and the water is a knot of cobbled streets full of galleries, creperies and cider shops. It is compact, it is beautiful, and it is small enough to be walked comfortably in an afternoon.
Any address in Paris or the Paris region, and all three airports.
Collected at the door at the hour you choose. Where the street is pedestrianised we agree a meeting point with you the day before.
We track the flight and adjust the pickup to the real landing time. Honfleur is a realistic first stop straight from the airport if you are starting a Normandy trip.
Versailles, Disneyland Paris or a private address in the suburbs. We start where you are; there is no need to travel into Paris first.
There is no single honest distance from Paris to Honfleur. It sits on the Normandy coast west of the city, so a guest leaving Beauvais and a guest leaving Orly are making very different journeys, and even within Paris the starting arrondissement changes the figure. We would rather measure than guess.
The calculator above asks the routing service for the real road route between your own pickup point and Honfleur and shows you the road distance in kilometres and the driving time before it shows a price. Broadly, guests leaving central Paris outside peak hours are in the car around two hours, by the A13 and across the Pont de Normandie.
That bridge is worth knowing about: it is a toll crossing over the Seine estuary with a span of more than eight hundred metres, and the approach into Honfleur across it is one of the better arrivals in France. The toll is included in the price we quote you.
The Vieux Bassin is the heart of it, and the single most photographed harbour in Normandy. The Lieutenance, the old governor's house, guards the entrance; the quay on the western side, the Quai Sainte-Catherine, holds the tallest and narrowest of the houses.
The Eglise Sainte-Catherine is a few steps inland: a double-naved wooden church with a ship's-hull roof and a separate bell tower, entirely unlike any other church you will visit in France. The Musee Eugene Boudin holds work by Boudin, Monet, Jongkind and Dufy, most of it painted within a few miles of the building.
Beyond that, the pleasure is simply the streets: the Rue Haute where Boudin was born, the Greniers a Sel salt warehouses, the Saturday market on the church square, and the walk up to the Cote de Grace chapel for a view over the estuary and the bridge. Honfleur is also a serious eating town, with the moules, the coquilles Saint-Jacques in season and the local cider and calvados all worth the detour.
A suggestion only. Your chauffeur follows your plan, and you can rearrange the day whenever you like.
Your chauffeur collects you at your hotel and takes the A13 west towards the coast.
Across the Pont de Normandie and dropped at the edge of the old town. The harbour and Sainte-Catherine are five minutes on foot.
Seafood on the Quai Sainte-Catherine, then the Boudin museum or the walk up to the Cote de Grace.
Deauville and Trouville are twenty minutes along the coast and make an easy addition. Otherwise back to Paris for the evening.
Give us the ages when you book and the right seat or booster is in the car before it leaves, at no extra cost.
Three large cases in the Executive Eco, seven in the Premium Van. Convenient if Honfleur is the first stop of a Normandy trip rather than a return day.
Everything is within a few hundred metres of the harbour, so there is very little walking between sights and a pushchair is manageable on most of the streets.
Prices are calculated on the real road distance returned by the routing service, never on a straight line. The Pont de Normandie toll, fuel and the chauffeur's time are already inside the figure you see.
Around two hours from central Paris outside peak hours, longer from Charles de Gaulle. Enter your real pickup address in the calculator above for the routed distance and driving time for your journey.
The town itself can be seen thoroughly in three or four hours, which is why most guests pair it with Deauville, Etretat or the D-Day beaches. As a single destination it makes a relaxed rather than a full day.
Honfleur with Deauville and Trouville is the easiest, all within twenty minutes of each other. Honfleur with Etretat is more ambitious but rewarding. Message us and we will tell you honestly what fits.
Yes, and it is the usual arrangement here. The old town is entirely pedestrian, so we drop you at the edge, wait, and collect you when you are ready.
Not much, but the streets are cobbled and some of them slope. Comfortable shoes help more than anything technical.
The main market is on Saturday morning on the square in front of Sainte-Catherine, and it is one of the best in Normandy. If your dates allow, it is worth building the trip around.
Yes. The figure quoted for your route and vehicle is the figure you pay, tolls included. There is no meter and no traffic surcharge.
