Chambord is the chateau most people picture when they imagine the Loire Valley: a vast white silhouette of towers, chimneys and lanterns rising out of a walled forest park that is roughly the size of central Paris. It was built as a hunting lodge for Francois I, never really lived in, and left almost untouched by the centuries. Standing in front of it is one of those moments that justifies the whole journey.
Getting there by public transport is the awkward part. There is no station at Chambord, so the usual route means a train to Blois, then a seasonal shuttle bus that runs on a limited timetable, and a return leg that has to be planned around the last connection back to Paris. A private transfer removes all of that. Your chauffeur collects you where you are staying, drives you directly to the chateau entrance, waits while you visit, and brings you back, or continues to a second chateau if that is what you would prefer. The day belongs to you rather than to a timetable.
Any address in Paris or the Paris region, and all three airports.
We meet you in the lobby or at the door of your apartment building, at whatever hour suits your plan for the day. Early departures are welcome and cost no extra.
Your chauffeur tracks the flight and waits in arrivals with a name sign. Chambord makes a memorable first stop if you are heading south on the day you land.
We also collect from Versailles, from Disneyland Paris hotels and from any mainline station if you are arriving into Paris by train that morning.
We deliberately do not publish a single fixed distance for Paris to Chambord, because there is no such thing. The real figure depends entirely on where you are collected. A pickup in the 7th arrondissement, a pickup at Charles de Gaulle and a pickup at Beauvais all produce noticeably different routes and different prices, and a number invented for a web page would be wrong for most of them.
Instead, the calculator at the top of this page measures the actual road route between your pickup address and Chambord, using live mapping data. It returns the real driving distance in kilometres and the estimated driving time, and it prices from that measurement rather than from a straight line drawn on a map.
As a very rough guide only, a journey from central Paris to Chambord is usually somewhere around two and a half hours of driving, most of it on the A10 motorway. Traffic leaving Paris, roadworks and the season all move that figure, so treat it as an order of magnitude and let the calculator give you the number that applies to your own trip.

The chateau itself is the reason to come. Four hundred and forty rooms, eighty-four staircases and a roof terrace that feels like a small stone town in the sky. The famous double-helix staircase in the centre of the keep lets two people climb without ever meeting, an idea often attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, who spent his final years a short drive away at Amboise. Climbing it to the terrace and looking out over the park is the highlight of most visits.
Around the chateau lies a hunting estate of more than five thousand hectares, entirely enclosed by a wall that runs for thirty-two kilometres. Parts of it are open to walkers and cyclists, there are observation hides where you can watch red deer and wild boar at dawn and dusk, and horse-drawn carriage tours run in the warmer months. It is a genuinely rare thing to find this much untouched land attached to a monument.
Chambord also works beautifully as part of a longer Loire day. Blois is twenty minutes away and has a chateau with four wings in four different architectural styles. Cheverny, with its perfectly furnished interiors and its pack of hounds, is closer still. Chenonceau, the chateau that spans the river Cher, is about an hour further west and is the other unmissable name in the valley.
For lunch, the village at the chateau gates has a handful of restaurants and a bakery, and the estate produces its own wine and beer. If you would rather eat somewhere quieter, your chauffeur can suggest a small place in one of the villages nearby and drive you there and back.
A suggestion only. Your chauffeur follows your plan, not ours, and every timing here can be moved.
Collection from your hotel or address. An early start means arriving before the coaches and having the first hour in the chateau relatively quietly.
Two to three hours is comfortable for the keep, the double-helix staircase, the roof terrace and a walk in the formal gardens on the north side.
Either in the village beside the chateau or at a restaurant your chauffeur suggests a few minutes away, depending on how formal you would like the meal to be.
Cheverny and Blois are both close enough for an unhurried second visit, or you can head straight back to Paris and be there in the early evening.
Tell us the ages and we bring the right seats and boosters. French law requires them and we would rather carry one too many than one too few.
Two and a half hours is a long stretch for small children. We stop at a service area whenever you ask, and it does not change the price you were quoted.
The Premium Van swallows a folded pushchair, a picnic bag and coats without anyone having to travel with luggage on their knees.
Prices are calculated on the real road distance, never a straight line, and the figure you see before booking is the figure you pay. Tolls and fuel are included, and there is no surcharge for luggage, for night hours or for a driver who speaks English.
The price is the real road distance multiplied by 2.00 EUR per kilometre in the Executive Eco or 3.20 EUR per kilometre in the Premium Van, with a minimum of 90 EUR and 110 EUR respectively. Enter your exact pickup address in the calculator above and you will see the distance, the driving time and both prices immediately.
Yes, if you book the trip as a return or as a day trip. Your chauffeur stays with the vehicle in the visitor car park and you contact him when you are ready. Tell us roughly how long you expect to be so we can plan the day properly.
Absolutely, and it is one of the main reasons people choose a private car. Chambord with Cheverny, or Chambord with Blois, both fit comfortably into a single day. Chenonceau can be added if you start early. Tell us what you have in mind when you book and we will price the whole itinerary.
We do not sell entrance tickets. We recommend booking them online in advance on the official Chambord website, particularly in July and August, so you can walk straight in rather than queue.
Leaving between seven and eight in the morning gets you to Chambord not long after it opens, which is by far the most pleasant time to see it. If you would rather not start that early, a mid-morning departure still leaves plenty of time for a full visit.
Yes. Your chauffeur monitors the flight, waits in arrivals with a name sign and there is no charge for reasonable waiting time after landing. Luggage travels with you and stays locked in the vehicle while you visit.
Your chauffeur is a professional driver, not a licensed tour guide, so he does not accompany you inside the monument or give commentary. He knows the region well and is happy to help with practical advice, timings and where to eat.
A 30% deposit secures the booking, paid by secure link once we have confirmed your journey in writing. The balance is paid to your chauffeur at the end of the journey, by card or in cash. See our cancellation policy. If you need an invoice for a company or for expenses, tell us when you book and we will prepare one.
