Blois sits on the north bank of the Loire, roughly halfway between Orleans and Tours, and for most of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries it was where the court actually was. Seven kings and ten queens lived in the chateau. Louis XII was born there. Francis I built the wing with the spiral staircase that everyone photographs. Catherine de Medici died there. In 1588 Henry III had the Duke of Guise stabbed to death in the royal apartments, and the guides still walk you through the room and tell you where each man stood.
What makes the chateau unusual is that nobody ever knocked the old parts down. The four wings around the courtyard are Gothic, Flamboyant Gothic, Renaissance and Classical, built across four centuries and left standing side by side. You can turn on the spot and watch French architecture change. There is no other building in the Loire quite like it, and it is the reason people who think they have seen enough chateaux still come to Blois.
The town below is smaller and quieter than Tours, with steep stepped streets running down to the river, a cathedral with a crypt older than the building above it, and terraced gardens behind the bishop's palace that look straight out over the Loire. Blois is also the natural base for Chambord, which is twenty minutes away by road, and a sensible first stop on any longer Loire Valley itinerary.
Your chauffeur meets you where you are, at the time you choose. There is no queue, no shared shuttle and no waiting for other passengers.
Door to door from anywhere in Paris or the Ile-de-France. Your chauffeur waits at the entrance, helps with the luggage and leaves when you are ready.
Your chauffeur tracks the flight and adjusts to delays at no extra cost. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board, or kerbside if you prefer.
Gare de Lyon, Montparnasse, Disneyland Paris, a cruise port or a town along the way. Tell us the address and we quote the real road distance.
Blois is about 185 km from central Paris. The drive is almost entirely motorway, down the A10 through Orleans, and takes two hours in normal conditions. Leaving Paris before eight in the morning or after ten usually avoids the worst of it; the middle of the afternoon on a Friday is the one time we would suggest building in an extra half hour.
The exact figure depends on where in Paris you start and which entrance to Blois you want, so the price you see in the calculator above is worked out on the real road distance for your own two addresses rather than a rounded number. Nothing is added afterwards.
Because Chambord is only about twenty minutes further on, a great many of our Blois bookings are really Blois plus Chambord in one day. If that is what you have in mind, ask for a day hire rather than a one-way transfer and the car stays with you.
Blois is compact. Everything below is within a fifteen minute walk of the chateau, which is why it works so well as a half day paired with something larger.
Four wings, four styles, one courtyard. Do not miss the Francis I staircase from the outside, then the royal apartments and the room where Guise was killed.
Directly opposite the chateau, in the house of the conjuror Robert-Houdin. On the hour, six dragons come out of the upstairs windows. Children stop dead.
Rebuilt after a storm in 1678 on top of a much older crypt. Behind it the terraced bishop's gardens give the best free view of the Loire in the town.
Rue des Papegaults and the stepped lanes running down to the river, half-timbered and largely unbothered by traffic. Ten minutes well spent between visits.
The chateau runs a sound and light show in the courtyard on summer evenings. If you book that, tell us when you reserve the car; we will either wait or come back for you, and either way you will know the price before you leave Paris.
Two hours each way is a long day for small children. A few things make it easier, and none of them cost extra.
Baby seats, toddler seats and booster cushions, fitted before you get in. Tell us the ages when you book and they will be in the car.
The Executive Eco takes three large cases, the Premium Van seven. Pushchairs and day bags travel in the cabin, not on somebody's knees.
Ask for a break at Orleans, at a service area or at a bakery. On a day hire we simply agree the stops with you in the car; there is no meter running.
One fixed rate per kilometre of real road distance. No airport surcharge, no night rate, no charge for luggage or child seats.
About two hours for roughly 185 km, almost all of it on the A10 motorway. Add half an hour if you are leaving central Paris between four and seven in the evening on a weekday.
Yes, and it is the most common way people do it. Chambord is around twenty minutes from Blois. Book a day hire rather than a one-way transfer and your chauffeur stays with you between the two, waits during each visit and brings you back to Paris.
Yes. The calculator on this page works out the real road distance between your two addresses and applies the per-kilometre rate. You see the figure before you confirm and it does not change afterwards, whatever the traffic does.
On a day hire, yes. The chauffeur parks nearby and is at the door when you come out. On a one-way transfer the journey ends when we drop you off, so if you plan to visit and return the same day, ask for the day hire when you book.
Yes. We meet flights at Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais, track the arrival time and wait if you are late. Your cases go straight in the boot and come out at your hotel in Blois. No trains, no changes.
Yes. A great many visitors stay in a chateau-hotel or a gite in the surrounding countryside. Give us the exact address and the quote is calculated to that door, not to the centre of Blois.
Tell your chauffeur. On a day hire we adapt: an extra stop, an earlier return, a different order of visits. If it changes the distance materially we tell you what it does to the price before we drive it, not afterwards.
Yes. All our chauffeurs speak English. Booking, confirmation and any question along the way are all handled in English, which is the main reason most of our passengers choose us over a local taxi.

Tell us where you are staying and when you want to leave. You will have a fixed price in writing and an English-speaking chauffeur at the door.
