Private Tours from Paris by Car

A private vehicle and an English-speaking chauffeur for the day, so you can see several places without driving, parking or reading a timetable. We are drivers rather than guides, and this page explains exactly where that line falls.

What We Mean by a Private Tour

The phrase "private tour" is used to sell two very different things, and a lot of confusion and disappointment comes from the gap between them. It is worth setting out plainly what we provide, so that nobody books expecting something else.

A private tour with Paris Chauffeur Transfers is a private car and a professional chauffeur at your disposal. The chauffeur collects you, drives you between the places you want to see, keeps the day moving so that you actually reach everything on your list, waits at each stop with the vehicle, looks after your coats and luggage, and takes you home at the end. The car carries nobody else. The itinerary belongs to you.

What we are not is a licensed tour guide. In France, guiding visitors inside monuments and museums is a qualified profession with its own training and accreditation, and our chauffeurs do not hold that qualification. So we do not deliver commentary inside the château, we do not lecture on the history of a cathedral, and we do not walk round the gardens narrating them. You visit the sites yourselves, at your own pace, in your own way.

That is a real limitation and we would rather you knew it before you booked than after. It is also, for a great many travellers, exactly the arrangement they wanted in the first place: the freedom of a private car with none of the driving, and the freedom to look at what interests them for as long as it interests them without being marshalled round in a group.

Where the Line Falls

Two honest lists. If what you need is in the right-hand column, you will want to arrange it separately, and we are happy to work around whatever you organise.

What the chauffeur does

Drives you between every stop in a private vehicle. Keeps the day to time so the plan holds together. Waits at each site with the car and stays contactable. Looks after luggage, shopping and coats between stops. Handles the parking, the tolls and the fuel. Speaks English, so you can change a detail mid-morning without a translation app. Sets you down wherever the day is meant to end — your hotel, another city or an airport.

What the chauffeur does not do

He does not give guided commentary inside monuments, museums or châteaux, and he is not a qualified guide. He does not provide skip-the-line or priority entry, which is not something a driver can grant. He does not buy your tickets or book your timed entry slots. He does not accompany you round the site. Where you want expert interpretation of what you are looking at, engage a licensed guide, or use the audio guide the site itself provides.

If you have already booked a licensed guide to meet you at a site, tell us the time and the meeting point when you book. Building the driving around a guide's appointment is straightforward and we do it regularly.

Who This Suits

A car with a driver is not the right answer for everyone. These are the travellers it genuinely helps.

Families

Nobody has to negotiate a station with a pushchair, and a child who has had enough can be back in the car in two minutes. Child seats and booster seats can be requested when you book.

Small groups

Up to four in the Executive Eco or up to eight in the Premium Van. One vehicle, one price for the group, and no headcount before every departure.

Travellers short of time

Two days in Paris and one château on the list, or a free day between meetings. A car removes the dead time at both ends of a train journey.

Limited mobility

Door-to-door driving cuts out long walks between stations, stairs and standing. Tell us what you need when you book so we can plan drop-off points as close to the entrance as the site allows.

Cruise passengers

If your ship calls at Le Havre or you are joining one there, a private car turns a fixed window ashore into a usable day and gets you back for the sailing time you give us.

Repeat visitors

People who have already done the obvious sights and want the awkward ones: a village, a cemetery, a vineyard, a house somebody in the family once lived in.

Multi-Day Tours on Request

Some of France does not fit into a day, and pretending otherwise produces a miserable amount of motorway. Alsace, Burgundy, Brittany, the Loire in any depth and a proper look at Normandy all work better over two or three days than crammed into one.

Multi-day arrangements are put together case by case. You tell us the region, the dates, the number of passengers and the sort of places you want to reach, and we work out a sensible sequence of driving days with you. You book your own accommodation, which means you stay where you actually want to stay rather than where a package decided, and the car is with you for the parts of the trip you want it for.

Because this depends entirely on the route, the number of days and how the driving falls, multi-day tours are quoted individually rather than from a price list. Send us the outline on WhatsApp and we will come back with a price and, if the plan needs it, an honest suggestion about what to cut.

How a Private Tour Is Arranged

Send us the outline

The date, the number of passengers, where you are staying and the places you would like to reach.

We sanity-check it

If the plan is too full for the hours available, we will say so and suggest what to drop rather than let the day fail.

You get a quote for that day

Priced on the itinerary and the hours involved, not from a fixed list, and confirmed before anything is committed.

You buy your own tickets

Book any timed entries yourself and send us the slots, and the driving is built around them.

Prefer a simple point-to-point journey instead? Use the calculator above — one-way transfers are priced instantly: set prices on the airport, Versailles and Disneyland routes, and real road distance for everything else, at €2.00 per kilometre in the Executive Eco and €3.20 per kilometre in the Premium Van VIP (€1.80 and €2.80 after the first 100 km).

Private Tour Questions

Is the chauffeur a tour guide?

No. He is a professional driver who speaks English. He drives, times the day, waits at each stop and looks after your luggage, but he does not give guided commentary inside monuments and is not a licensed guide. If you want expert interpretation of a site, engage a licensed guide separately and we will fit the driving around them.

Do you get us into sites without queueing?

No. We cannot provide priority or skip-the-line entry, and any driver who tells you otherwise is overselling. What we can do is get you to the entrance early and without the journey eating into your day, which in practice is where most of the queueing time is lost.

Do you buy the tickets?

No, you book your own tickets and timed entries. Send us the times once you have them and the day is planned around your slots.

What is the difference between a private tour and a day trip?

Very little in practice, and the words overlap. Both keep the car and the chauffeur with you for the day rather than dropping you and leaving. Day trips tend to be a single region visited and returned from in a day; a tour tends to describe a longer or more elaborate itinerary, sometimes over more than one day. Either way, it is quoted on the itinerary.

How much does a private tour cost?

It depends on the itinerary and the hours, so we quote each one individually rather than print a figure that would be wrong for most people. Send us your plan on WhatsApp and you will get a price for that specific day. One-way point-to-point transfers are different and are priced instantly by the calculator on real road distance.

Can a tour start or finish at an airport?

Yes. Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais all work as starting or finishing points, and there is no airport supplement. Give us the flight number and we track the flight.

Can you help with a cruise call at Le Havre?

Yes. Tell us the ship, the date and the time you must be back on board, and we will plan the day inside that window. Bear in mind that a fixed sailing time limits how far inland it is sensible to go.

What if the weather ruins the plan?

Tell the chauffeur, or message us the night before. Swapping a clifftop walk for an indoor site is usually easy, and it is one of the real advantages of having your own car rather than a coach seat.

Tell Us What You Want to See

Send your dates, your group size and the places on your list. We will quote the day, tell you honestly whether it fits, and arrange the car and the chauffeur around it.
