Giverny is a small village on the edge of Normandy where Claude Monet lived for the last forty-three years of his life. He bought the pink house with green shutters, planted the flower garden in front of it, then bought the marshy field across the road and dug the pond that became the water lilies. Both gardens are still planted the way he planted them, replanted every season by a team of gardeners working from his own notes and from the paintings themselves.
It is a genuinely easy day out of Paris, and it is one of the trips where a private car changes the day completely. The village is served by a station at Vernon, five kilometres away, and then a shuttle bus. That works, but it fixes your day to a timetable in both directions and it puts you in the gardens at exactly the hour everyone else arrives. With a chauffeur you leave when you choose, arrive before the coaches or after they have gone, and come home when you have finished rather than when the last convenient train departs.
Any address in Paris or the Paris region, and all three airports.
Your chauffeur waits at the entrance at the agreed time. If the street is closed to traffic or the address is inside a pedestrian zone, we agree a nearby meeting point with you in advance.
We track your flight and adjust the pickup to the real landing time. Your chauffeur meets you in arrivals with a name sign and helps with the bags. Giverny is a realistic first stop straight from the airport.
If you are staying outside the city, at Disneyland Paris, in Versailles or near a business park, we start from there. There is no requirement to travel into Paris first.
We do not publish a single fixed distance for this route, because there is no single distance. Giverny sits north-west of Paris, so a guest leaving from Charles de Gaulle, a guest leaving from the Latin Quarter and a guest leaving from Orly are all making different journeys. Quoting one number for all three would be misleading.
What we do instead is measure it. The calculator above asks Google for the real road route between your exact pickup point and Giverny, then shows you the road distance in kilometres and the driving time before it shows you a price. As a rough guide, most guests leaving central Paris are on the road for somewhere around an hour and a quarter outside rush hour, and the A13 is the usual way out.
Traffic is the honest variable. Leaving Paris westwards between 8am and 9.30am, or coming back into the city between 5pm and 7pm, can add half an hour. If your day is flexible, an early start is worth it twice over: lighter roads and quieter gardens.
There are really three things at Giverny, and most visitors do all three in a morning.
The Clos Normand is the flower garden in front of the house, laid out in long parallel beds that Monet planned for colour rather than for botanical order. It changes completely between April and October, which is why people who came in tulip season come back for the dahlias.
The water garden is across the road, reached by a tunnel. This is the pond, the wisteria and the Japanese bridge that produced the Water Lilies. It is smaller in real life than the paintings suggest and much greener, and it is at its best early in the day before the light goes flat.
The house itself is open too, and it is worth the queue: the yellow dining room, the blue kitchen and Monet's collection of Japanese prints hanging exactly where he hung them. A short walk away, the Musee des Impressionnismes runs changing exhibitions and has a quiet garden of its own, and the village church holds Monet's grave.
This is a suggestion and nothing more. Your chauffeur follows your plan, not ours, and you can change it on the day.
Your chauffeur meets you at your hotel. Water is in the car. The A13 is usually clear by the time you reach it.
We drop you at the entrance rather than in the coach park. Doors open at 9.30 in season, so an early arrival means the water garden almost to yourself.
Gardens, then the house, then the Musee des Impressionnismes if you want it. Two to three hours is comfortable. Lunch in the village, or at one of the small restaurants on the main street.
Many guests add Vernon or Rouen on the way back, or continue to Honfleur. Others simply return to Paris. Tell your chauffeur on the day.
Tell us the ages and we bring the right seat or booster at no extra charge. Please ask at the time of booking rather than on the morning, so the car leaves the depot correctly equipped.
The Executive Eco takes three large cases, the Premium Van seven. A folded pushchair fits easily in either. If you are coming straight from the airport with all your bags, choose the van.
The single real advantage of a private car with young children: nobody has to be marched back to a bus. When they have had enough, the car is there.
Prices are calculated on the real road distance returned by the routing service, never on a straight line between two points. What the calculator shows you is what you pay: tolls, fuel and the chauffeur's time are already included.
Most guests leaving central Paris are in the car for about an hour and a quarter outside peak hours. From Charles de Gaulle it is longer, from Orly it is comparable. Use the calculator above with your real pickup address and it will give you the routed driving time rather than an average.
No. The house and gardens are seasonal and normally open from late March to the beginning of November. Outside that window we would suggest Vernon, Rouen or Vaux-le-Vicomte instead, and we are happy to advise.
We are a transfer company, not a tour operator, so we do not sell entry tickets. Booking your own timed slot online in advance is strongly recommended in high season, and your chauffeur will get you there for the slot you have chosen.
Yes. Tell us how long you expect to be and we plan the day as a private hire with waiting time rather than as two separate one-way transfers. Contact us with your timings and we will quote it properly.
Very commonly. Giverny with Rouen, Giverny with Honfleur, or Giverny on the way to Normandy for a longer stay. Send us the shape of the day on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
Yes, and it is a popular first day. We track the flight, meet you in arrivals and carry your luggage with you for the day. Choose the Premium Van if you are travelling with full suitcases.
Yes. The figure the calculator shows for your route and vehicle is the figure you pay. There is no meter and no surcharge for traffic.
We confirm the booking and the price with you first, in writing. Payment arrangements are agreed at that point, and you will always know the total before the day.
