On 6 June 1944 the Allies landed on five beaches along the Calvados coast, given the codenames Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. Those beaches run for roughly eighty kilometres from the Cotentin peninsula in the west to Ouistreham in the east, and the sites that matter are spread along the whole of it: the American cemetery above Omaha, the German battery at Longues-sur-Mer, the cliffs at the Pointe du Hoc, the remains of the artificial harbour at Arromanches, Pegasus Bridge at the eastern end, and the museums at Caen and Bayeux.
This is not a destination you visit; it is a coastline you travel along. There is no useful public transport linking the sites, and the coach tours necessarily compress them. With a private car you choose which beaches matter to you, spend as long as you need at each, and travel between them without thinking about it. Many of our guests are visiting a specific grave or a specific sector, and that is a day that has to be built around them rather than around a fixed route.
Any address in Paris or the Paris region, and all three airports.

We track the flight and can take you straight from arrivals to a hotel in Bayeux or Caen, which is what we would suggest if the beaches are your main reason for coming.
If you are already staying in Bayeux, Caen, Deauville or Honfleur we start from there, which makes for a far more relaxed day on the coast.
There is no single distance to quote here, for two reasons. The first is the usual one: your pickup point changes the journey, and a guest leaving Beauvais is not making the same trip as a guest leaving Orly. The second is specific to this destination: the beaches are not one place. Utah in the west and Sword in the east are more than eighty kilometres apart, so the distance depends on which sectors you choose.
Use the calculator above for the outbound leg by entering your pickup point and Bayeux or Caen, which are the usual bases. It asks the routing service for the real road route and shows the kilometres and the driving time before any price. As a broad guide, central Paris to Bayeux outside peak hours is around three hours.
For the day itself, the driving between sites typically adds another hundred kilometres or more depending on how much you want to see. That is not something a point-to-point calculator can price honestly, so send us the sites on your list and we will quote the day as a private hire covering the whole route and the waiting time.
The Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer stands on the bluff above Omaha Beach, with nearly ten thousand graves and a visitor centre that is one of the best pieces of interpretation on the whole coast. Below it, Omaha Beach itself is a long flat stretch of sand that gives an immediate physical sense of what the assault involved.
The Pointe du Hoc is still cratered and holds the concrete casemates the US Rangers scaled the cliff to reach. Arromanches retains the concrete caissons of the Mulberry harbour standing offshore, visible from the town. Longues-sur-Mer has the only German battery on the coast with its original guns still in place.
Bayeux is the natural base: the first town liberated, with a cathedral that came through undamaged, the Commonwealth war cemetery, a good battle museum and, from an entirely different century, the eleventh-century tapestry. Further east are Juno Beach with its Canadian centre, Sword, and Pegasus Bridge. The Memorial de Caen is the largest museum of the campaign and worth half a day on its own.
A suggestion only. This is a day people usually want built around specific places, and your chauffeur follows your list rather than ours.
An early departure is necessary if you are doing this in one day from Paris. The A13 west, then across to Caen.
The visitor centre, the cemetery and the beach below. Most guests spend around two hours here.
Lunch in Arromanches or Port-en-Bessin, the Mulberry harbour remains and the Longues battery.
The tapestry or the war cemetery if there is time, then the drive back to Paris, arriving late evening.
Tell us the ages when you book and the correct seat or booster travels with the car at no extra charge. On a day with this much driving it matters.
Twelve hours door to door from Paris is a lot for young children. Your chauffeur will stop whenever you ask, and shortening the list of sites is always an option.
If you are coming to find a relative, tell us and we will make sure the schedule gives you unhurried time there. Nobody will be waiting for you at the gate.
The calculator prices the transfer to Bayeux or Caen on real road distance. For a full day along the coast, message us with the sites you want and we will quote the whole day rather than one leg of it.
Yes, and many guests do, but it is a twelve-hour day with around six hours of driving. You will see two or three sites properly rather than all of them. If the beaches are the main reason for your trip, an overnight in Bayeux is a much better use of the time.
Bayeux is around three hours from central Paris outside peak hours, and Caen a little less. Use the calculator above with your own pickup address for the routed distance and time.
For most first-time visitors: the American cemetery and Omaha, the Pointe du Hoc, and Arromanches. Canadian visitors usually want Juno; British visitors often want Gold, Sword and Pegasus Bridge. Tell us your connection to the campaign and we will shape the route.
No. We provide the vehicle and a professional chauffeur, not a licensed guide. For this destination in particular a specialist guide adds a great deal, and we are happy to point you towards reputable ones so you can book directly.
As a private day hire covering the outbound and return legs, the driving between sites and the waiting time. Send us your list on WhatsApp and we will quote it properly rather than guessing.
Yes. Give us the cemetery and the details in advance and we will build the day so that you have proper time there, without anyone hurrying you.
The region is extremely busy around 6 June, with road closures and ceremonies. We do serve those dates but ask you to book well in advance and to expect a slower day.
Yes. You get the figure in writing before the day, tolls included, and it does not change afterwards.
