Epernay is a small town that happens to sit on top of an extraordinary amount of wine. The Avenue de Champagne runs for barely a kilometre and is lined with the headquarters of Moet et Chandon, Perrier-Jouet, Pol Roger, De Venoge and Boizel, each with chalk galleries running under the road. The estimates vary, but something in the region of a hundred kilometres of cellars and hundreds of millions of bottles lie beneath that one avenue. Churchill drank Pol Roger from here for half a century, and the house still names its prestige cuvee after him.
Where Reims gives you a cathedral and the big maisons, Epernay gives you the vineyards. Hautvillers, the village where Dom Perignon was cellarmaster and is buried, is five minutes up the hill. The Cote des Blancs, the chardonnay slope that produces the blanc de blancs, begins immediately to the south. This is a landscape of small roads between small villages, and it is the reason a private car with a chauffeur turns a Champagne day from logistics into pleasure.
Any address in Paris or the Paris region, and all three airports.

Charles de Gaulle is the most convenient of the three for Champagne. We track the flight, meet you in arrivals with a name sign and keep your luggage with you for the day.
Disneyland Paris, Versailles, a suburb or a business park. We start where you are, and there is no requirement to travel into Paris first.
We do not publish a fixed Paris to Epernay distance, because the pickup point changes it substantially. Epernay is east of Paris, so leaving from Charles de Gaulle is a shorter journey than leaving from Orly, and a hotel near Bastille is different again from one near the Arc de Triomphe. A single number would be inaccurate for almost every guest reading it.
The calculator above does the honest thing: it asks the routing service for the real road route from your own address to Epernay and shows the distance in kilometres and the driving time before it shows any price. For orientation only, guests leaving central Paris outside rush hour are usually in the car a little under two hours, generally by the A4.
A Champagne day almost always involves more driving than the outbound leg alone, because the villages are spread across the slopes. If you plan to visit Hautvillers, the Cote des Blancs or a grower in the Marne valley, tell us and we will quote the day as a private hire rather than as a point-to-point transfer.
The Avenue de Champagne is the obvious start: a procession of nineteenth-century mansions built by families who became very rich very quickly, with the cellars beneath. Moet et Chandon runs the best-known tour, Mercier has a small train through its galleries, and Pol Roger and De Venoge offer quieter, more intimate visits by appointment.
Hautvillers is five minutes north, a hillside village of wrought-iron shop signs where the abbey church holds the tomb of Dom Perignon. The views over the Marne valley from the road above it are the ones that end up on postcards.
The Cote des Blancs runs south through Cramant, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, all of them grand cru chardonnay villages with growers who will pour for you in their own kitchens if you have arranged it. This is where a car matters most: there is no practical public transport between these villages, and the whole point is to move between two or three of them at your own pace.
A suggestion only. Your chauffeur follows your appointments and your mood, not this list.
An early departure keeps the A4 civilised and gets you to your first appointment relaxed.
Your booked cellar visit, usually around ninety minutes underground, ending with a tasting.
Up to the village, the abbey church and the view over the valley, then lunch either there or back in Epernay.
A grower visit in Avize or Le Mesnil, a slow drive through the vineyards, and back to Paris for the evening.
Give us the ages at the time of booking and the correct seat or booster is in the car before it leaves, at no extra cost.
Three large cases fit the Executive Eco and seven the Premium Van, and there is normally space for a box or two of bottles on top of that. Check your own customs allowance before buying in quantity.
No designated driver, no counting glasses, no drive back down the A4 afterwards. This is the practical reason most guests book a chauffeur for Champagne.
Prices are calculated on the real road distance returned by the routing service, never on a straight line. Tolls, fuel and the chauffeur's time are already inside the figure you are shown.
A little under two hours from central Paris outside peak hours, and somewhat less from Charles de Gaulle. Enter your real pickup address in the calculator above for the routed distance and time rather than a generic figure.
Epernay if you want vineyards, villages and growers. Reims if you want the cathedral and the largest houses. With a car you can comfortably do both in one day, which is the usual reason people book us for this trip.
No. We transport you; the visits are booked by you directly with the maison or the grower. Most of the well-known houses require an online reservation, particularly at weekends and in high season.
Two with a proper lunch is comfortable. Three is possible if they are close together and you keep lunch short. We would rather tell you honestly that a plan is too tight than agree to it and rush you.
Yes, and for Champagne that is the normal arrangement. We quote the day as a private hire including waiting and inter-village driving rather than as two separate transfers.
Yes. Charles de Gaulle works particularly well. We track your flight, meet you inside arrivals and your suitcases stay in the car all day.
Yes. The figure quoted for your route and vehicle is the figure you pay. There is no meter and traffic does not change it.
Easily. They are on opposite sides of Epernay but both within fifteen minutes of it. Tell us which villages you want and we will build the route.
