Chantilly is one of the shortest day trips from Paris and one of the least crowded, which is an unusual combination. The chateau stands in the middle of its own water, surrounded by Le Notre's canals and parterres, and inside it holds the Musee Conde: a collection of paintings, drawings and illuminated manuscripts that the Duc d'Aumale left to the nation on the condition that nothing ever be moved or lent. That condition is why the rooms still look like a nineteenth-century private collection rather than a museum, and why you can stand a metre from Raphaels and Poussins in a room with no queue.
Next door are the Grandes Ecuries, stables built for two hundred and forty horses by a prince who believed he would be reincarnated as one. They now house the Museum of the Horse and a working equestrian troupe. Chantilly is also a racing town, home of the Prix du Jockey Club, and the birthplace of the whipped cream that carries its name. For guests flying into Charles de Gaulle it is close enough to be a genuinely easy first or last day in France.
Any address in Paris or the Paris region, and all three airports.

Chantilly is remarkably close to Charles de Gaulle, which makes it an excellent stop on the way into Paris or on a long layover. We track the flight and meet you in arrivals with a name sign.
Versailles, Disneyland Paris, the northern suburbs or a business address. We start from where you are; there is no need to come into the city centre first.
We deliberately do not publish one fixed distance from Paris to Chantilly. Chantilly is north of the city, so a guest starting at Charles de Gaulle has a very short run indeed, while a guest starting near Orly is crossing the whole Paris region to reach it. One printed number would flatter one guest and mislead another.
The calculator above solves this properly. It asks the routing service for the real road route between your own pickup point and Chantilly, then shows the road distance in kilometres and the driving time before it quotes a price. Purely for orientation, guests leaving central Paris outside peak hours are typically in the car for around forty-five minutes, usually by the A1.
The A1 is the busiest corridor out of Paris in the morning and back into it at the end of the day. That said, Chantilly is close enough that even a bad traffic day does not ruin the trip, which is part of what makes it such a reliable choice.
The Musee Conde is the reason art historians make the trip. Raphael, Botticelli, Poussin, Ingres and Delacroix, hung in the dense nineteenth-century manner the Duc d'Aumale specified and legally froze. The Cabinet des Livres holds the Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, the most famous illuminated manuscript in the world, though what is on display is generally a facsimile for conservation reasons.
The Grands Appartements and the chapel are visited on the same ticket, and the gardens are worth an hour on their own: Le Notre's canal and grand parterre, an anglo-chinois garden with a hameau that predates and inspired Marie-Antoinette's, and a English garden beyond.
The Grandes Ecuries are a five-minute walk. The scale of the central dome is genuinely startling, and the resident equestrian troupe gives demonstrations on most days the museum is open. Beyond that is the racecourse, one of the most beautiful in Europe, and the town itself, where the local restaurants take creme Chantilly rather seriously.
A suggestion only. Your chauffeur works to your plan and you are free to change it during the day.
Later starts work well here because the drive is short. Your chauffeur collects you at your hotel and takes the A1 north.
Dropped at the entrance. The Musee Conde and the state apartments take a comfortable two hours, and rarely feel busy.
Lunch in the park or in town, then the Grandes Ecuries and an equestrian demonstration if the timing suits.
Senlis, a medieval town with a Gothic cathedral, is fifteen minutes away and makes an excellent postscript. Otherwise back to Paris, or straight to CDG for an evening flight.
Tell us the ages when you book and the correct seat or booster is fitted before the car leaves, at no additional cost.
Because it is so close to Charles de Gaulle, Chantilly lets a family fill the awkward hours before a hotel room is ready without anyone having to carry a suitcase onto a train.
The Museum of the Horse and the demonstrations under the great dome tend to work on children who have run out of patience for paintings.
Because Chantilly is a short run, the minimum fare often applies rather than the per-kilometre rate. The calculator applies whichever is higher and shows you the result before you commit to anything.
It depends entirely on where in the region you start. From central Paris it is usually around forty-five minutes outside peak hours; from Charles de Gaulle it is considerably less. Enter your real pickup address in the calculator above for the routed distance and time.
It is one of the best. The airport sits between Paris and Chantilly, so a long layover or an early arrival becomes a real visit rather than a wait. Tell us your flight numbers and we will build the timings around them.
It normally closes on Tuesdays for most of the year, with seasonal variations. Please check the official calendar for your date and we will plan the car accordingly.
The Grandes Ecuries house the Museum of the Horse and a resident equestrian troupe that performs on most opening days. Times vary by season, so check before you fix your schedule.
Yes, and for a short trip like this it is usually the sensible arrangement. Tell us how long you expect to stay and we quote the day as a private hire including waiting time.
Senlis is fifteen minutes away and pairs naturally. Pierrefonds is further but perfectly feasible in the same day. Message us the combination and we will confirm whether the timings work.
Yes. The figure shown for your route and vehicle is what you pay. No meter, no traffic surcharge.
We can certainly drive you there. On major race days, including the Prix du Jockey Club, roads and parking around the town become difficult, so we would ask you to allow extra time.
